US personality Jon Stewart has reflected upon the one-year anniversary since Donald Trump was elected President in typically wry fashion.
The former Daily Show host addressed a crowd at the annual Stand Up for Heroes benefit in New York, quipping that he “blacked out” during the 2016 election and requesting the audience bring him up to speed on its outcome.
“What happened? Did my candidate win?” Stewart said, according to The Daily Beast.
Trump's presidency has been tackled in numerous ways over the course of the past year with filmmakers, TV showrunners and musicians taking aim at the many controversial acts he committed while in charge of the country, and Stewart's chief confusion stemmed from Obama voters who went on to vote for Trump.
“You know who I want to vote for is that very staid, professorial gentleman from Kenyan birth who has an articulate sense and is a bit standoffish, that’s the guy that I really love. But since he’s not running this year, I’m gonna check out the ‘grab ‘em by the pussy’ candidate,“ he joked, mimicking those people.
“How do you even get there?" he asked, delivering the question on everybody's lips:
"What the f*ck, man?“
Stewart stated that electing Trump President was like “putting our d*ck in the toaster and we’re all waiting to see what happens.”
Addressing both the tragic mass shooting at a church in Texas last weekend as well as the violent neo-Nazi and white nationalist rally in Virginia earlier this summer, Stewart asked: “Remember the good ol’ days when we were just worried about neo-Nazis marching through Charlottesville?”
The event was presented by the NY Comedy Festival & Bob Woodruff Foundation.
