Your support helps us to tell the story

From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Your support makes all the difference.

DJ Jo Whiley has criticised Britain's Got Talent and The Voice - saying that contestants do not know what they are letting themselves in for.

The former Radio 1 DJ said that aspiring stars are unprepared for the consequences of appearing on the ITV1 and BBC1 shows.

She told the Radio Times: "Britain's Got Talent and The Voice make my skin crawl.

"The people who put themselves up for them can't possibly know what it's like to be exposed on TV - how cruel the public and the media are."

She added: "I'd much rather watch a silly old game show than Britain's Got Talent."

Whiley, who now broadcasts on Radio 2, added that she would never compete on Strictly Come Dancing.

She told the magazine: "I couldn't do it to my family and I wouldn't do it to myself. It would be so humiliating. I'd be the comedy contestant."
