From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. Your support makes all the difference.Jimmy Kimmel took a swipe at US president Donald Trump over his recent attacks on Amazon and its owner Jeff Bezos.
Kimmel was one of several late night TV hosts who discussed how the president had repeatedly lashed out at the company, claiming Amazon was taking advantage of the US Postal Service and saying it lost $1.50 for every Amazon delivery, "which, by all accounts, isn't true".
Amazon has lost $60bn in valuation since Trump began his attacks, which saw him tweet about the company four times in the past week.
According to Vanity Fair, Trump has told advisers he dislikes Amazon because Bezos, its CEO, also owns the Washington Post. Trump apparently believes Bezos is using the newspaper to lobby for Amazon's business interests. Amazon does not hold a stake in the publication.
"He tweeted this one-star review of Amazon defending that," Kimmel continued, reading Trump's tweet: "I am right about Amazon costing the United States Post Office massive ammounts of money for being their Delivery Boy. Amazon should pay these costs (plus) and not have them bourne by the American Taxpayer. Many billions of dollars. P.O. leaders don't have a clue (or do they?)!"
Commenting, Kimmel said: "Why insult the people at the post office by calling them Amazon's delivery boy? They deliver things... that's what they do!"
He joked: "Trump is jealous because Jess Bezos is an actual billionaire."
