From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. Jedward have boasted that they’ve been blocked by Piers Morgan on Twitter, while dubbing the former Good Morning Britain host a “threatened coward”.

Pop star twins John and Edward Grimes, who found fame on The X Factor, have been engulfed in a war of words with Morgan on social media this year. In March, the twins, collectively known as Jedward, tweeted that a statue of Winston Churchill currently erected in central London should be dumped in Morgan’s back garden.

In response, Morgan tweeted that such a move would be “an honour”, adding that Churchill “contributed more to society every time he breathed than you talentless disrespectful clowns have done in your combined 58 years of gormless tuneless imbecility”.

The back and forth continued this week, when Jedward called upon ITV and Simon Cowell to not rehire Morgan as a judge on Britain’s Got Talent. The tweet followed rumours that Morgan was looking to return to the talent competition in the wake of his GMB exit.

“Simon is considering Piers Morgan for judge on BGT after the s*** he said about Little Mix over this iconic photo!” Jedward tweeted, while referring to Morgan’s condemnation of a photograph of the pop group in which they appeared nude to raise awareness for online bullying.

“Have some respect for the girls you judgemental misogynistic farts!” the pair added.

In a follow-up tweet, Jedward posted a screenshot of Morgan’s Twitter account, which suggested that the TV personality had blocked them from seeing his profile.

“Confirmation @PiersMorgan is threatened and a coward!” the pair wrote. “You can’t block free speech! No Justice No Peace.”

Earlier this week, Jedward launched into a fiery tirade against Cowell and The X Factor, tweeting that their biggest regret was “not telling the judges on X Factor to f*** off”.
