From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Stacey Solmon hurls a stone at Dom Joly
The X Factor star Stacey Solomon was assigned a top-secret mission and needed to attract the attention of comedian Dom Joly without any of their campmates noticing. Unfortunately, Joly was a little slow on the update, so Solomon resorted to desperate measures: chucking a stone that ended up hitting him square in the face. Joly subsequently freaked out, at first thinking it was a giant insect (fair, given their surroundings), but later making a big show out of accusing Solomon, who was frantically winking at him.
Helen Flanagan can’t be bothered
The Coronation Street actor was almost impressively unfussed about the fact that she was repeatedly refusing to take part in any challenge she was nominated for. Ant and Dec looked increasingly exasperated as they tried to get her to at least have a go, but her mind was set.
Joey Essex learns to tell the time (kind of)
After realising that the TOWIE star couldn’t tell the time on an analogue clock, Miss Great Britain winner Amy Willerton took pity and tried to teach him using the dirt floor and some twigs. “I just don’t understand the ticks,” Essex said by way of explanation. Snooker legend Steve Davis was at a loss for words as he watched the lesson in progress. “I’ve never met anyone like Joey before in my life,” he said. Essex was very excited when he got it right though, bless him. He compared it to “like climbing a ladder”. No, we don’t know what that means either.
Steve Davis takes a dip
Speaking of Steve… the snooker player was gearing up for his big moment during a challenge, when he ended up slipping and falling into a murky lake. Ant and Dec couldn’t help but crack up, pointing out that they hadn’t even started the challenge yet.
Amir Khan’s strawberries and cream
The boxing champion decided to lie and tell his campmates that he lost the Dingo Dollar challenge, so he and Iain Lee could enjoy a helping of strawberries to themselves. The moment was made all the more memorable due to the fact that Khan was dressed as a giant cat who, quite literally got the cream.
Dean Gaffney has a meltdown

The EastEnders star offered one of the most memorable challenge reactions thanks to a mix of gagging, shrieking and frantic limb-shaking as he attempted to collect gold stars. Ant and Dec struggled to keep straight faces as he used his feet to propel giant bugs out of a box in search of the stars, and later beg for a towel after plunging his face into a bowl of liquified “vomit fruit”. Ant later noted that Gaffney was one of the “most nervous celebs we’ve ever had do this”.
Peter Andre bores everyone senseless
Peter Andre definitely had a chip on his shoulder when it came to his career, and wasn’t shy about telling his campmates how much he loved singing. He actually broke out in song at one point, cue the camera cutting to Johnny Rotten, looking like he was trying to work out the best way of murdering Andre without getting caught. By the time Andre started showing off his high notes, Rotten seemed convinced it was worth the jailtime.
Gillian McKeith “faints”
It’s hard to believe there was once a time when we took Gillian McKeith’s dietary advice seriously, given she advocated sniffing your own poo to know whether you were healthy or not, but there we are. The notorious You Are What You Eat presenter appeared in the 2010 series of I’m a Celeb, and spent most of it whining about the lack of food she could eat. She even smuggled banned food in her underwear. But that wasn’t the most memorable McKeith moment on the show. That came when she “fainted” after being told she’d be spending a night in the jungle camp, leading to Bob the medic getting his moment in the spotlight. Ant and Dec, meanwhile, looked more confused than concerned.
I’m a Celebrity launches on Sunday 15 November at 9pm on ITV
