From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Contestant Joey Essex's former fiancé , Sam Faiers, was widely tipped to fly in, but former model Annabel Giles and Strictly Come Dancing ex-professional Vincent Simone will be the new faces on tonight's show instead.
Annabel, 54, holds the dubious belief that life in the campsite will be "better than going to a health spa". "I couldn’t bear lounging around in towelling dressing gowns. This will be exciting for me," she said.
When asked her phobias by ITV, Annabel simply named "camping" (right...), while her fellow newbie Vincent is "scared of everything".
Best known as one half of popular Strictly duo Vincent and Flavia, the 34-year old is "looking forward to to pushing [himself] and trying", while teaching the camp some dance moves to "inject some passion".
Yesterday, viewers watched campsites Snake Rock and Croc Creek merge together after Joey won his second bushtucker trial against chat show host Matthew Wright.
The pair suffered ten minutes in hour glasses full of creepy crawlies, before Joey was crowned winner in the decider. Matthew and Joey had to count down from 60 seconds and press a button when they thought that time was up.
Despite professing not to be able to tell the time, The Only Way Is Essex star was victorious with one second separating him from Matthew. "I told you I'm good at counting. I used to count all the time!" he said, seriously.
Immediately removing his top on completion of the challenge to an unsurprised Ant and Dec, Joey's glory was short-lived, as he was nominated for his fourth trial tonight, the ominously named 'Submerged'.
"What does 'submerge' mean?," he asked. You'll find out soon Joey, don't you worry your perfectly-groomed head.
Joey will be asked to climb through a hatch into a submarine, with jungle critters at the helm. He will search for stars in the ship, each one representing a single meal for camp, as it is slowly submerged in water.
Let's hope Joey can swim better than he can tell the time...
