Your support helps us to tell the story
From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Who? Lucy stars as Chas Dingle in the ITV soap Emmerdale and is taking part in I’m A Celebrity as a “spur of the moment” decision.

Why take part?: She always makes big decisions in her life in a split second but has admitted to being terrified by the prospect. “It’s good to make myself do something I would not normally do.”
What she says: Set to rival Joey Essex, Lucy is packing three bikinis. “I will probably wear a modesty smock constantly. Maybe it will be alright after lack of food. When the ribs start showing, I might put them on then!”
Ideal campsite comrade: Possibly Emmerdale co-star Zoe Henry, who has leant her a bikini for the show.
Most likely to humilate herself: Complaining about boredom as she can’t sit still for five minutes.
Phobias: None, bar being bored out of her mind.
Looking forward to: “Afterwards!” she jokes, sort-of.
Odds of a jungle romance?: Not for Lucy, she’s engaged with a daughter.
