Your support helps us to tell the story

From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Your support makes all the difference.

Laila Morse, 68, actress

Who? Known to millions as wheeler-dealer Mo in soap drama Eastenders, Leila also took part in last year’s Dancing On Ice.

Why take part?: Leila has confessed that she is keen to lose a few pounds and is excited to give the trials “a bash”.

What she says: “I do think I will be the mum in the camp. I hope I am a shoulder to cry on.”

Most likely to humilate herself: Confronting any girls “with screechy voices who go ‘ee, ee’ all the time” and chatting through the night so the others can’t get any sleep.

Phobias: None as bad as Matthew Wright's fear of spiders, but she doesn't love the eight-legged bugs much ether and cockroaches give her the shivers.

Ideal campsite comrade: Leila longs for co-actor Joe Swash to return to the jungle with her, explaining that he’s “always been my boy”. Johnny Depp would be well-received too.

Looking forward to: Leaving the jungle a few pounds lighter in time for Christmas!

Odds of a jungle romance?: She has a partner, Jimmy and two children who think she is mad to want to go on the show.
