Your support helps us to tell the story

From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Your support makes all the difference.

David Emanuel, 60, fashion designer

Why take part?: After beating prostate cancer last year, he wants to see whether he can survive the jungle too. “Had I not had those tests, I might not be here. What is there to lose?”

What he says: “It’s not going to be Vogue Magazine! But I will give it a shot. I don’t see the point of not giving it all a go.”

Most likely to humilate himself: Passing judgement on his campmates fashion choices.

Phobias: Everything and anything including claustrophobia, heights and creepy-crawlies.

Ideal campsite comrade: Anyone who hates bullying and bitchiness as much as he does.

Looking forward to: Challenging himself, then being reunited with his doves, bed and a nice hot bath.

Odds of a jungle romance?: David is divorced. “I’d like to think there will be a few pretty blondes in there who I can be a shoulder to cry on!” he says.
