Your support helps us to tell the story

From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Your support makes all the difference.

Alfonso Ribeiro, 42, actor

Who? Alfonso is best known for his role as Carlton Banks in the American sitcom The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air, starring alongside Will Smith.

Why take part?: Claiming to have never failed anything in his life, Alfonso wants to see if this will be the first. “I accepted the offer because it was a chance to conquer some fears of mine.”

What he says: “I have not actually seen much of I’m A Celebrity, which is the reason why I am doing it. If I had seen more of it, I would probably say ‘hell no’.”

Most likely to humilate himself: Being grouchy after a lack of food, rapping the Fresh Prince theme tune and refusing to perform the ‘Carlton dance’.

Ideal campsite comrade: The Fresh Prince himself, perhaps?

Phobias: Snakes, lizards, creepy crawlies and small spaces.

Looking forward to: Seeing his wife and newborn when he’s released from the jungle.

Odds of a jungle romance?: None - Alfonso is married and adores his baby son.
