Your support helps us to tell the story

From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Your support makes all the difference.

Not one to do commissioning by halves, Netflix has commissioned House of Cards season 3 before season 2 has even aired.

The streaming service turned content producer has always had supreme confidence in the series, initially ordering two seasons of the show before the world had even seen the pilot.

"We start shooting season three soon," actress Robin Write (Claire Underwood) told reporters in New York on Tuesday, ahead of the second season's arrival on 14 February.

The next set of episodes are to be made available all in one go, seeing Kevin Spacey's devious congressman Frank Underwood close in on the White House as reporter Zoe Barnes tries to take him down.

House of Cards became the first online-only show to win an Emmy last year, with David Fincher taking home the best directing award.

Netflix has a host of other original shows coming later in the year, including a second season of Orange Is The New Black, a cartoon about a whiskey-drinking horse starring Breaking Bad's Aaron Paul and a series from the Wachowskis. There's more on those and other new commissions here.
