Homeland showrunner teases Damian Lewis return as Nicholas Brody
A return for the show's former co-lead character is not being discounted

In a post-season interview, showrunner Alex Gansa spoke to Deadline, not only about the fatal events which rocked the finale, but also a possible return for Damian Lewis' character Nicholas Brody.
Lewis was Claire Danes' co-lead star in the show's debut season, playing a former prisoner of war whose allegiance to his country was questioned following political intelligence discovered by CIA officer Carrie Mathison (Claire Danes), who has remained the show's lead.
Gansa stated that Lewis' return is “...always a possibility.”
He continued: “I think Brody was such an important part of Carrie’s past that it might be worth exploring in some way, shape or form.”
It does seem, however, that there are no set plans with Gansa keen to kee Carrie's story propelling forwards.
“But honestly, I think Carrie, as a character, has moved past that,” he said. “In a lot of ways she was much more naïve and innocent in that period of her life, and I think she’s really matured into a woman now. There was something a little girlish about Carrie in the first couple of seasons and she really has become a young woman.
“I think for that reason Brody will remain in the rear view, probably.”
Lewis departed the show in its third season, reprising the role briefly as Carrie's hallucination in season four.
It is unclear whether Homeland season seven - widely believed to be the Showtime drama's last - will return later this year or early 2018.
