From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. If you have been on Twitter recently, you will have probably noticed the huge influx of Stranger Things-themed header images. That’s all thanks to a certain title generator released earlier this month in celebration of the first season reaching Netflix.

Those data crunchers at Nelson Cash have since released a list of the words most put into the generator, revealing that the internet really is made up of teenagers.

According to the results, the word ‘Things’ was entered 50,000 times, while ‘F**k’ was entered 26,700 times, ‘D*ck’ 11,900 times, and ‘Butt’ 9,500. The fourth notable entry, and perhaps the biggest sign of the times, is ‘Harambe’, entered 9,300 times. Apparently, people also loved typing in their own name, so no surprises there.

Words put into Stranger Things generator, according to Nelson Cash

“Things” was entered over 50,000 times

“F**k” was entered over 26,700 times

“D**k” was entered over 11,900 times

“Butt” was entered over 9,500 times

“Harambe” was entered over 9,300 times

“Nudes” was entered over 4,800 times

“Trump” was entered over 3,500 times

“Clinton” was only entered 523 times

The most input phrases were ‘Manda nudes’, ‘F**k you’, ‘Star Wars’, ‘Stranger Danger’, ‘Fora temer’, and ‘RIP Harambe’. Apparently ‘Manda nudes’ proved particularly popular thanks to a Brazilian fan site, the phrase meaning ‘send nudes’ in Portuguese. As said earlier, the internet is full of teenagers.

Meanwhile, Netflix has confirmed season two of Stranger Things is definitely happening, announcing nine episode titles. The creators have discussed what we can expect from the season, detailing how the first season only touched on the Upside Down.
