Your support helps us to tell the story

From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Your support makes all the difference.

Despite viewers being initially concerned Bake Off moving from the BBC to Channel 4 would inhibit the show, the new series proved a success with Noel Fielding winning over the sceptics.

Of course, the annual Great Christmas Bake Off and Great Festive Bake Off will return, this year's shows featuring some of our favourite bakers.

For the Great Christmas Bake Off comes 2016’s Selasi Gbormittah and Val Stones. Both were fan-favourites, Selasi’s laid-back attitude and Val’s dancing winning over the nation.

Beca Lyne-Pirkis from the 4th series — known for her “exquisite” macarons — will also return for the Christmas special, as will the 6th series’ Lion-sculptor, Paul Jagger.

Meanwhile, for the second special, The Great Festive Bake Off, Rav Bansal and Benjamina Ebuehi from the 7th series will be coming back.

Rob Billington, best known for accidentally dropping a pristine chocolate cake on the floor during the second series, and ‘wobble dancer’ Sandy Docherty finish the line-up.

When we can expect the two festive episodes remains to be seen — release dates and timings will be announced by Channel 4 closer to the time.
