Great British Bake Off 2016: The best innuendos are even better out of context

Your support helps us to tell the story

From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Your support makes all the difference.

It is a truth universally acknowledged that The Great British Bake Off owes as much to its cheeky innuendos as it does to its showstoppers.

In honour of the show’s love of smut, a Twitter account has been set up to share some of the best quotes with viewers. Taken completely out of context, they’re even funnier, so here a few of our favourites from @nocontextgbbo:

The Great British Bake Off continues tonight, with the remaining bakers facing a series of bread-themed challenges. Those still competing in the tent include 23-year-old teaching assistant Benjamina, PE teacher Candice, politics and economics student Michael, former primary school headteacher Val and the bookies favourite, client service associate Selasi. So far, we have bid farewell to builder turned pastor Lee and hairdresser Louise.

Officially one of the UK's biggest television shows, the first episode of the new series attracted a staggering 11.2 million viewers - almost half the UK TV watching audience and a whole million more than last year’s opener.

The Great British Bake Off airs on Wednesdays at 8pm on BBC One. Follow our live updates tonight.
