From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Good Morning Britain viewers have called for TV Judge Robert Rinder to be made permanent host of the show.

ITV have yet to fill the full-time hosting slot formerly occupied by Piers Morgan, who departed the series in March amid a storm of controversy surrounding comments he made on-air about Meghan Markle.

Rinder appeared on the popular morning talk show earlier today (20 April), discussing renter’s rights with host Susannah Reid and recalling his recent experience being mugged for a mobile phone.

On the show, he bemoaned the findings of a new report which suggested a third of private renters in England live in dangerous conditions because they fear eviction if they complain. In the segment, Rinder called on the prime minister to introduce a renters’ reform bill.

Viewers were impressed with his appearance, with some positing that ITV should hand the Judge Rinder star the reins on a permanent basis.

“Bravo Rob Rinder,” wrote one Twitter user, responding to his comments about renters’ rights.

“Oh yes please,” wrote one person in response to the idea of signing him up full-time. “It’s the first time [I’ve] tuned in since #PiersMorgan left!”

“Watched GMB this morning, first time in ages as Rob Rinder was on,” wrote another. “The search for a new co-presenter is over.

“Rob Rinder is the only person to replace Piers. Huge intellect, huge personality, and the ability to empathise without being patronising and he has ‘it’. Sign him up , you just may get some viewers back. He seeks to unite not divide.”

“Rob Rinder... Next GMB Presenter... Pleeease,” wrote someone else.

“Rob Rinder would be a great replacement for Piers Morgan,” another person tweeted at the official Good Morning Britain account.

Good Morning Britain airs weekdays at 6am on ITV.
