From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

The curvy singer has been dancing for around seven hours a day to prepare for her performances on the hit BBC1 show.
The 30-year-old, who finished joint second on the leaderboard at the weekend with Victoria Pendleton and Michael Vaughan, told Heat magazine that she was reaping the benefits of her rehearsals with professional dance partner Pasha Kovalev.
"My bum's lifted slightly (since I started training)," she said. "I can see some liftage going on. It could still be a little bit firmer."
Walsh said her Girls Aloud bandmate, Nicola Roberts, was obsessed with her derriere.
The singer, who is set to embark on a 12-date Girls Aloud reunion tour, said: "It could still be a little bit firmer, although I don't think Nicola would like that. I think she likes the fact that it moves.
"That's what is so fascinating to her, because she has a nice little pert, firm bottom.
"Mine has a bit of movement, and I think that's why she's fascinated by it. She's like 'Touch it! Touch it! Look at it!'
"And I'm like 'Yeah, that's called wobbling. But if you like it, that's fine."'
Walsh added: "Do you know what? I'm actually quite fine with having a larger bottom. It's part of who I am."
