From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. Gemma Collins has apparently admitted that she made up a story about being prepared to sell a sex tape if she was ever “skint”.

The reality TV star appears as a guest on Mel Giedroyc’s new Dave show, Unforgivable, next week (Tuesday 23 February), where she reportedly made the revelation.

She had previously made the claim in an interview on Piers Morgan’s Life Stories last week.

“I might go skint one day, and I’ve gotta do a Kim K,” she said, when asked whether she’d held onto the sex tape that she had mentioned in previous interviews. “Do you know what? Sex sells.”

She continued: “It’s probably about 20 minutes long, but we’ve all done it with our partners, you know. I’m normal.”

However, during the episode of Unforgivable, Collins apparently admits that she made the entire thing up.

“I said in an interview once, thinking it was funny, that I’d done a sex tape like Kim K. Didn’t think any more of it,” she says, according to the Huffington Post.

“Next thing, I’m being interviewed by Piers Morgan on Life Stories and he leads me in it.

“I thought, ‘S***’. But now I’m in deep. I’ve got myself in hot water.”

Collins said in actual fact “there is no sex tape” and it was “just one big fat lie”.

Despite the fib, Collins was widely praised for her appearance on Life Stories, in which she made a number of honest and moving revelations.

Morgan has since responded to Collins, joking on Twitter: “Hmmm. how do we know she's not now lying about lying?”

Collins appears in episode four of Unforgiveable alongside Tom Allen and Darren Harriott.

Unforgiveable airs on Dave on Tuesdays at 10pm.
