Your support helps us to tell the story

From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Your support makes all the difference.

Gavin & Stacey star Alison Steadman will host a pub quiz on Thursday 21 May in aid of UK charity Marie Curie.

The actor, who plays Pam Shipman on the hit show, is encouraging fans to join forces with their housemates, friends or family online to take part.

The quiz, which begins at 8.15pm, will enter anyone who donates to Marie Curie into a prize draw.

Details are available on the Marie Curie Facebook page, including the below instructions:

“Form a team with your household, on your own, or with friends and family online.

“Join us on Tiltify using this link: www.mariecurie.org.uk/livequiz (see the pinned post in this Event for more details).

“Make a donation, if you can, on our Tiltify page to help Marie Curie nurses and hospices.

“Mark yourself (no cheating!).

“Use the comment box to chat to our host and share your scores on the doors!”

The Gavin & Stacey cast have been among a number of celebrities encouraging the public to do their part in the battle against coronavirus.

Writer and series co-creator Ruth Jones, who stars as Nessa, released a social media message last month instructing people to follow the government’s social distancing rules.

In typical fashion, she demanded that everyone “stay out of my way” if they see her running her half-marathon around Barry.
