From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Game of Thrones fans patiently sat through the Super Bowl, hoping to glimpse their favourite characters back in Westeros.

After some time, they were rewarded – kind of.

Rather than show a straight season eight trailer, HBO elected to team up with Bud Light to release what amount to both an advertisement for beer and a tease for the upcoming season.

The clip centres on a jousting match, where a Bud Light Knight enters the arena. His opponent, it transpires, is The Mountain from Game of Thrones.

Before long, the Clegane brother is crushing the knight’s head – a nod to a very famous Game of Thrones scene – and one of the show’s dragons comes blazing in. Watch above.

Other trailers to debut during the Super Bowl including teases for Avengers: Endgame, Toy Story 4, The Handmaid’s Tale, The Twilight Zone and Netflix’s David Attenborough series Our Planet.

Game of Thrones returns 14 April. Read everything you need to know about the season here.
