From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Lena Headey recently revealed how a journalist criticised her looks in an interview that left her feeling “crushed.”

The Game of Thrones star appeared on Running Wild With Bear Grylls back in June where she divulged details on a press junket during which a reporter criticised her appearance in front of a room of people when she was seven months pregnant.

Headey told Grylls in the newly resurfaced clip: “You have to do these things for all the awards and everything where loads of people interview you. I went in and was seven months pregnant and [there was] a whole room of journalists, and this guy stood up and he said, ‘Uh I just want to say that you’re really disappointing in real life.'”

The British actor - a brunette - revealed how the reporter told her she looked better wearing a blonde wig in character as Cersei Lannister

“He went, ‘Is that your real hair?'” Headey said. “And I went ‘Yeah’ and he said, ‘The wig is much better. I like you as a blonde.’ I was like, ‘OK.’ I was just crushed. How is that alright to say?”

This comes after Lola Kirke (Mistress America) explained her reaction to a review which described her looks in indie film Gemini as “hardly flattering.” Upon reading the New Yorker review, Kirke stated she felt “ashamed of herself” and was left questioning her own beauty.

Headey - who has been Emmy-nominated for her portrayal of Cersei - is currently filming scenes for the final season of Game of Thrones which is expected to drop on HBO and Sky Atlantic mid-2019. She'll next be seen in Fighting With My Family which stars Florence Pugh as WWE Professional Wrestler Paige.
