From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Game of Thrones has enlisted the services of an EastEnders star for its eighth and final season.

Swapping Albert Square for Westeros is Alice Nokes who is best known for appearing on the BBC One soap as Courtney Mitchell, the daughter of characters Tiffany (Martine McCutcheon) and Grant (Ross Kemp), in 2016.

The news was confirmed by fan site Watchers on the Wall who spotted that the actor's agency CV states she'll appear on the HBO series as a mysterious character named Willa in either the first, second or fourth episode.

Earlier this year, the return of Melisandre was confirmed with fans feverishly theorising what the Red Woman will be up to when the series returns following a now-deleted Instagram video which provided a few inadvertent clues thanks to the location of actor Carice van Houten.

Elsewhere, a leaked set photo teased a reunion for Jon Snow (Kit Harington).

Game of Thrones season 8 is expected on HBO and Sky Atlantic in 2019.
