From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Given King Jon Snow (it’s so nice to be able to use that title at last) spent a solid six seasons trying to keep back the substantial threat of the White Walkers, it’s hard to imagine him suddenly becoming obsessed, as everyone else is, by the Iron Throne in Game of Thrones season 7.

Here’s how I imagine Jon and Daenerys’ first correspondence will go down (if they had WhatsApp in in the Seven Kingdoms):

Dany: in westeros next week. gonna take the throne i reckon. that kl?

Jon: ye go for it i dont know much about ruling tbf lol

Dany: :’)

Jon: oh btw there’s all these brain dead white guys in the north tho

Dany: u u mean? jk

Jon: srsly, proper tough, undead dudes. you should check em out

Dany: got a link?

It’s at this point that Jon must go IRL, and where the set leaks come in *major spoilers ahead*.

According to Watchers on the Wall, Lena Headey (Queen Cersei), Peter Dinklage (Tyrion Lannister), Emilia Clarke (Queen Daenerys Targaryen), Kit Harington (King Jon Snow), Iain Glen (Ser Jorah Mormont), Conleth Hill (Varys), Nathalie Emmanuel (Missandei), Anton Lesser (Qyburn), and Hafthor Bjornsson (The Mountain) and Rory McCann (The Hound) all filmed a scene together in which a wight is brought into the Dragonpit as proof of the White Walker threat.

This is huge, and ties in with previous reports that Jon goes on an expedition to capture a wight.

It will be interesting to see what Cersei, who is suspicious but not stupid, makes of this reanimated corpse, and also her aide Qyburn, who specialises in magic.

Will the proof of White Walkers be enough to put the battle for the throne to one side? Will Daenerys test out her dragons on the wight? Will The Mountain just straight up eat it?

We’ll find out when Game of Thrones returns for seven new episodes in summer 2017.
