And with that, we say goodbye to Arya, Bran and Tyrion for another year, season six ending with quite the finale.
Fans have a lot to speculate over; while we ended without an equivalent question to “Is Jon Snow really dead?” Cersei’s questionable rulership will likely be a hot topic for discussion, as will her brother’s reaction to the events.
Speaking about the new Queen of the Seven Kingdoms, showrunners David Benioff and D.B. Weiss peaked our intrigue over what is to come for the Lannister.
Asked whether her mindset by Deadline, now she has lost her children, is to be a ruthless leader, Weiss said: “Not to give a frustrating answer, but that’s what so much of next season is going to be about; finding out what Cersei’s mindset is. Who is she?
“While Cersei has certainly done a lot of horrible things in her life and she could be a very cruel person, the one thing that was redemptive about her was, she genuinely loved her children. Now they’re all gone, and I think that is very interesting for us. Who is she without her children?
“The answer is something you’ll find out next season. That’s so much of what is to come that I’ll just give it away if I start delving into it now.”
Cersei quite obviously has very little remorse for her victims, and as a leader, she can be as ruthless as she desires. Without her being grounded as a mother, how terrible will she become? And how will she deal with Danny and Jon Snow?
Whatever the scenario, season seven is set to be one hell of a sendoff for the show.
Meanwhile, speaking about the last episode, Bran actor Isaac Hempstead Wright discussed the new information revealed to his character.
