First, the season premiere set a huge record, being watched by 16.1 million HBO subscribers overnight in the United States, including on demand. Of those, 10.1 million of them were watching live.
Come the fourth episode, ‘The Spoils of War’ — which leaked early — 10.17 million people tuned in live, breaking the first episode’s record. A week later, ‘Eastwatch’ set another record, watched live by 10.72 million.
Across the pond, Sky Atlantic recorded their highest ever viewership, 3.42 million watching in the UK with an extra 1.2 million timeshift viewers.
Expectations for the finale were high, the episode delivering an incredible 12.1 million live viewers in the US, rising to 16.5 million including streaming figures. For some perspective: the sixth season finale was watched by 8.9 million viewers live
According to Variety, across all platforms, season seven episodes of Game of Thrones have averaged around 30 million people, up 8 million from last season. The first season only accomplished 2.5 million viewers per episode with live viewers plus streaming that day.
