From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Kit Harington, who plays Jon Snow, described the season finale as “incredible” in an interview with the Hollywood Foreign Press Association (as reported by Watchers on the Wall).
“The last episode is incredible, really, and the length will be longer as well,“ he said, confirming HBO's news that it will be a feature-length special.
Teasing the eighth and final season that will air in 2018, Harington continued: “It will set the template for next year.”
Harington - reflecting on what a life without the cultural phenomenon could have entailed - said: “Who knows what could’ve happened, but it’s rare to find something like this that’s so popular and widely watched.“
Next week's episode looks to follow Snow's expedition north of the wall alongside other characters including The Hound, Ser Jorah and the newly-returned Gendry in a bid to kill a White Walker with the intention of presenting it to Cersei Lannister as proof of the wider dangers outside of Westeros.
The latest Thrones episode - titled 'Eastwatch' - was yet another fast-paced outing (read our review here) that fans are convinced featured a subtle confirmation of a huge theory regarding the heritage of Tyrion Lannister (Peter Dinklage).
Game of Thrones airs in the US on HBO every Sunday where it is simulcast in the UK on Sky Atlantic at 2am. It is repeated that same evening on both Sky Atlantic and NOW TV.
