Your support helps us to tell the story

From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Your support makes all the difference.

Spotify is just as excited about Game of Thrones season six as you are, and to coincide with this weekend's premiere, it is assigning users a character from the series based on their music tastes.

All you have to do is open Spotify Game of Thrones, log into your account and sit back as the site analyses your listening habits before hitting you with its verdict.

The list of potential characters, and just some of the music acts that feature in their designated playlist, can be found below:

Robert Baratheon (Lynyrd Skynyrd, The Band)

Shireen Baratheon (lots of piano music)

Ygritte (Pixies, The Flaming Lips)

Gilly (Beth Orton, Dixie Chicks)

Ned Stark (The Rolling Stones, of course)

Robb Stark (Arcade Fire, Arctic Monkeys)

Khal Drogo (extremely heavy rock)

Joffrey Baratheon (My Chemical Romance, Fall Out Boy)

Lord Varys (plenty of Aphex Twin)

Margaery Tyrell (Adele, Alicia Keys)

Tormund Giantsbane (Black Sabbath, Judas Priest)

Samwell Tarly (Damien Rice, Ben Howard)

Ramsay Snow (Slayer)

Ellaria Sand (Hector & Tito - just look them up)

Jorah Mormont (Johnny Cash, Bob Dylan)

Missandei (FKA Twigs, Frank Ocean)

Melisandre (Bullet For My Valentine, Nine Inch Nails)

Bran Stark (blink-182, Fall Out Boy)

Sansa Stark (PJ Harvey, Haim)

Arya Stark (The Pretty Reckless, Wolf Alice)

Jaqen H'ghar (Run-D.M.C., Public Enemy)

Theon Greyjoy (Belle & Sebastian, The National)

Hodor (Daft Punk, Ratatat)

Brienne of Tarth (Alanis Morisette, Florence + The Machine)

Stannis Baratheon (Joy Division, Talking Heads)

Jaime Lannister (Depeche Mode, U2)

Cersei Lannister (Er... Whitney Houston and Cheryl)

Petyr "Littlefinger" Baelish (Frank Sinatra, Portishead)

Jon Snow (Biffy Clyro, Muse)

Tyrion Lannister (Miles Davis, The Pogues)

Daenerys Targaryen (Warpaint, Bat for Lashes)

Despite clearly being Robb Stark, this particular writer was somehow aligned with the wildling Ygritte (apparently it's the shared love of Scottish rock and folk that did it); you know nothing, Spotify.

It's all a bit of fun and a nice way to bide your time until season six debuts on HBO on the 24 April at 9pm. The premiere episode will be simulcast in the UK on Sky Atlantic, at 2am on the 25 April, and then every Monday onwards for the remainder of the season.

If the upcoming season doesn't feature a scene of Peter Dinklage drunkenly crooning along to The Pogues' "Streams of Whiskey," we're going to be disappointed.
