From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. Maisie Williams is refusing to admit that Jon Snow will return in Game of Thrones season six, insisting that the popular character is “toast” despite all reports suggesting otherwise.

The 18-year-old actress plays the Night's Watch commander's half-sibling Arya Stark in the hit series, so if anyone knows what the hell is going on in Westeros, she should.

But with actor Kit Harington being spotted shooting a major battle scene on set in Belfast and all but confirming his comeback himself, it seems likely that this is merely a last-ditch attempt to throw fans off the scent.

“All the time people are asking me if Jon Snow is alive and the answer is no! He’s dead! I promise,” Williams told Christian O’Connell on Absolute Radio this morning, before suggesting viewers are unwilling to face up to the horror.

“I think you’re in denial about it for a long time when you see the death of a big character but I can’t help but think it makes for such a great storyline! It keeps you coming back for more. My favourite character was Ygritte. But then she died!”

The Lord Commander of the Night’s Watch, who was stabbed by his own men and left for dead in the season five finale, recently revealed that the show will “remain part of his life for a while”, but Williams has an answer for this too.

“The interview that you’ve all read and think that Kit spoiled is fabricated. It was totally false!” she told TV Line at the Emmy Awards last month.

It’s all getting too confusing, with so many theories we’re practically swimming in them.

Game of Thrones is expected to return to HBO and Sky Atlantic next spring.
