Maisie Williams has confirmed a Game of Thrones spoiler about her popular character Arya Stark, via the oh-so-modern medium of an Instagram post.

Arya was last seen in the dramatic season five finale, when she appeared to be blinded by Jaqen H'ghar as punishment for defying The House of Black and White by seeking her revenge and murdering Ser Meryn Trant, after he killed her sword master Syrio.

Fans of George RR Martin's A Song of Ice and Fire novels on which the HBO series is based will have expected Arya to lose her sight, but the 18-year-old has now put an end to speculation about what showrunners will do.

The revelation came when Williams posted a photo of herself lying in bed wearing cooling pads under her eyes.

"Aftermath of blind contacts," she wrote, before uploading a video of her eyes "looking like little vaginas" after shooting with blind contacts. Some in-joke with co-star Sophie Turner, it seems.

Williams spoke recently about the discomfort of wearing contacts. "I don't want to wear these crazy contacts for the rest of my time on Thrones," she moaned to Entertainment Weekly in June.

"I don't know how that will impede [Arya's] life. She's going to become very vulnerable thanks to that. It's exciting and scary so I'm worried about next year."

Game of Thrones is expected to return in April 2016, although an exact air date is yet to be confirmed.
