Few would have predicted any kind of 'surrender' in the Stark v Bolton battle

My recent work focusing on Latino voters in Arizona has shown me how crucial independent journalism is in giving voice to underrepresented communities.

Your support is what allows us to tell these stories, bringing attention to the issues that are often overlooked. Without your contributions, these voices might not be heard.

Being well aware of the Game of Thrones fandom’s attention to detail, HBO has been careful not to give away too much in its season 6 episode synopses - all “somebody gets and gift” and “so and so makes a tough decision”.

The descriptions for the final two episodes though are even more opaque than usual:

S06E09 - ‘Battle of the Bastards’

‘Terms of surrender are rejected and accepted.’

S06E10 - ‘The Winds of Winter’

‘Season Finale. Cersei faces her trial.’

So what can we glean from them?

It’s interesting that surrender is discussed, as I can’t imagine Ramsay ever going for that option. Perhaps Jon would however, in order to spare lives? Team Stark seem destined to win though, after all the sh*t they’ve been through, especially if the Knights of the Vale arrive in the eleventh hour.

As for the final episode, HBO nearly always omits the major plot strand from its synopses, so Cersei’s trial (which apparently now won’t be conducted by combat) will likely play second fiddle to a central storyline, probably involving Bran, the White Walkers and the Tower of Joy (we know young Ned Stark is in the episode).

Episode 9 will be the longest episode of the season so far, before episode 10 becomes the longest episode in the show’s history. Gulp.

Last week’s instalment, ‘No One’, teased Cerise’s plan to crush the Faith Militant in the “whispers” former maester Qyburn shared with her.
