From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Your support makes all the difference.

Game of Thrones star Kit Harington had a difficult time fielding questions during his Saturday Night Live opening monologue, considering the only thing anyone wanted to know was how the show ended.

That included his own co-stars Emilia Clarke and John Bradley, who made a surprise visit to the SNL studio. Clarke asked if Harington could at least offer “a sense of how it ends”.

When the Jon Snow actor pointed out that she, indeed, was also in the show, Clarke replied: “Well, yeah, but I forgot. It’s been so damn long since the last season, plus a lot of my scenes are talking to a dragon, which is just a tennis ball on a green pole. I have no idea what’s actually happening.”

She then asked if he remembered when they had sex back in season six (in reality the scene happens in season seven). “Did you know they filmed that?” she added.

Bradley then stood up to ask what happened to his character, Samwell Tarly, as “they only let me see two pages of the script and all my character says is, ‘Arhhhh.’”

Rose Leslie, who starred in the show as Yrgitte and is also married to Harington, wasn’t so concerned with how the show ends because “I’m not a nerd.”

“My question is, what are we going to do for money now?” she said. “We didn’t save anything, and you kept telling me, ‘Oh I’m the King of the North, we can order UberEats every night.”

The final season of Game of Thrones reaches TV screens 14 April. The show will be available on Sky Atlantic and NOW TV in the UK. Read everything you need to know about the forthcoming season here.
