From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Game of Thrones may not be leaving behind the legacy it was hoping.

The HBO series, which ended with its eighth and final season in May, is still top of Google months later – but not for a very positive reason.

Thanks to a Reddit campaign, the show sits at the top of the search engine if you type in "bad writers".

The effort has been the handiwork of one user who created a post titled "Bad Writers. Upvote this post so it's the first result when you google 'Bad writers'" and, sure enough, their plan worked.

This means that when those who aren't aware of this post search "bad writers" into Google,Thrones showrunners David Benioff and DB Weiss will be the first faces they say.

The final season of Game of Thrones proved controversial among fans. While the HBO show continued to amass record-breaking views right up until its finale, many criticised the faster-paced nature of the final six episodes.

Despite this, George RR Martin – the author of the novel's source material – remained supportive of the duo throughout.

Benioff and Weiss will next work on a brand new Star Wars trilogy.

Game of Thrones is available to watch on NOW TV. You can find a compilation of every character – from worst to best – here,
