From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. The episode sees Martin tell off his fictional grandson towards the end of the video for protesting about seeing the two main gay characters Geoffrey and Jonathan kissing.

“Oh, I didn’t know my grandson was homophobic,” Martin says, after the little boy tells him: “I thought this was a story about a Game of Thrones recap show with an LGBT perspective. I don’t want to hear about kissing.”

The spoof video, produced by Will Ferrell and Adam McKay’s online production company Funny or Die, later sees Martin poke fun at the length of time it takes him to write his novels.

After his grandson protests that he wants to know what happens next in the story, Martin tells him: “Get off my back, you’re going to grow up to be King Joffrey! These things take time to write, they’re 1,500 pages long, some people can’t even read them,” before storming off.

The video, released after the season four finale on Monday, covers all the key moments from the last episode with a camper-than-camp spin.

Cersei seducing Jamie is re-told as “blonde Cher” casting her “pussy power” over “Brother D”, while Jon Snow is compared to looking as glamorous as Angela Bassett in Waiting to Exhale.
