Your support helps us to tell the story
From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.
Your support makes all the difference.Parks and Recreation gave us so many gifts during its seven seasons: Li'l Sebastian, "Ben Wyatt, human disaster", and the Ron Swanson pyramid of greatness
It also, so generously, introduced several new annual holidays to celebrate: Treat Yo Self on 13 October, the perfect day of the year for some uninhibited splurging, and Galentine's Day, a precursor to Valentine's Day celebrated on 13 February.
A day for ladies to celebrate ladies; invented by the ever-loving and doting Leslie Knope (Amy Poehler), who would gather together all the most special women in her life to offer them outlandish themed gifts, including needlepoint pillows and mosaics with each of their faces on it.
Ever since the episode titled "Galentine's Day" aired in 2010, the holiday's consistently grown in popularity, transcending the show itself and taking on a life of its own. Companies now regularly promote the day as an alternative to Valentine's Day, with US chain store Target even selling Galentine's Day gifts - though they're a little more grounded than what Leslie would come up with.
So it's no surprise that the actual stars of Parks and Recreation would embrace the day with open arms, with Aubrey Plaza (who played April Ludgate) posting a photo of herself celebrating with her co-stars: Poehler, Rashida Jones (who played Ann Perkins), and Kathryn Han (who played campaign manager Jennifer Barkley).
