From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Futurama was one of those rare shows that somehow disappeared for six years, only to return as strong as ever (albeit on a different network, moving from FOX to Comedy Central).

Many fans are hoping Matt Groening’s sci-fi show will return once more, having last aired back in 2013.

Well, there’s some promising news, as Futurama is returning for a one-off 42-minute radio-play, written by Groening and David X. Cohen.

The episode, which was created alongside the Futurama mobile game, Worlds Of Tomorrow, follows Fry and the gang facing the villain Klaxxon, who is composed entirely of discarded soundwaves from 21st-century podcasts.

Chris Hardwick of the Nerdist came up with the idea, the publication hosting the episode, alongside SoundCloud and Spotify. Hardwick will voice Klaxxon, while the original cast — including Billy West, John DiMaggio, and Phil LaMarr — will return.

The episode will be available on 14 September.

Earlier this year, Netflix announced they were working with Groening — who also famously created The Simpsons — on a new series.

Titled Disenchantment, the show follows a young, hard-drinking princess named Bean — along with her elf companion Elfo and personal demon Luci — as they traverse the crumbling medieval kingdom of Dreamland, the trio encountering all sorts of mystical creatures.

The 20-episode series will premiere on Netflix in 2018, Groening and Josh Weinstein (The Simpsons, Futurama) serving as executive producers.
