Friends coffee shop Central Perk to open in New York complete with Gunther and orange couch
Could I be indulging in any more nostalgia?
Your support helps us to tell the story
From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.
Your support makes all the difference.TV news seems to have returned to 2007 this week, dominated by discussion of the ending of The Sopranos and a Friends reunion.
The return of Rachel, Monica and Phoebe in a Jimmy Kimmel skit has now been compounded by more Friends nostalgia, with the iconic Central Perk café set to open in Manhattan next month.
Warner Bros has confirmed that a pop-up replica will open on 199 Lafayette Street in the SoHo neighbourhood for a month between 17 September and 18 October to celebrate the sitcom's 20th anniversary.
The coffee shop served as the setting for so many memorable scenes, including Joey revealing his crush on Rachel to Ross ("Rachel?!"), the arrival of Russ, and Mike's invisible piano playing.
Customers will be able to sip (free!) coffee on the classic orange couch and check out other props from the show, while James Michael Tyler will be there, who played Central Perk's manager Gunther.
Its opening will follow a media preview on 15 to 16 September, with queues expected to be around the block.
Comedy Central will celebrate the show's 22 September anniversary in the UK, showing the nation's favourite episodes as voted by viewers.
