The upcoming Friends ‘reunion’ has got a lot of fans very excited, with many people hoping the Central Park gang would be back in character for the special two-hour show.

Unfortunately, we’re almost definitely not going to see Rachel, Monica, Phoebe, Joey, Chandler and Ross for a number of reasons. First, Matthew Perry has already announced he won’t be there.

Second, David Schwimmer - who plays Ross in the show - has now clarified that, when the cast meet once more, it is purely a tribute to director Jimmy Burrows, nothing more.

“There's no Friends reunion," he said via E! Online. "It's a tribute to Jimmy Burrows who we love and I'm just thrilled to be a part of it. As many of us that can be there will be there and the casts of so many shows are going to try to be there—Frasier, Cheers, Will and Grace, it goes on. Taxi.

“This man is an incredible director who helped define situation comedy in this country in the last 40 years so I love him and I'm excited to be there."

When NBC chief Robert Greenblatt announced the news, he said he was hoping “all six will be in the same room at the same time,” something seemingly impossible to achieve.
