Over the weekend, Obama continued with his annual tradition of revealing his top books and films of the year.
He also named the three TV shows he “considered as powerful as movies”, which included Fleabag, Unbelievable and Watchmen.
Fleabag, which began in the UK in 2016, became popular in the US earlier this year after premiering on Amazon.
Its second season, which co-starred Andrew Scott, became an awards favourite and won the show Best Comedy Series at the Emmys.
British fans are pointing out that, if Obama has seen the second season of Phoebe Waller Bridge’s series, it stands to reason he will have seen the first, which features a saucy joke about the former US president.
In the very first episode of the comedy show, the character of Fleabag (Waller Bridge) is shown being caught masturbating to a video of Obama giving a speech by her boyfriend.
Twitter users reacted accordingly, with one writing: “Okay, I’m gonna try to be calm about this, but doesn’t the Fleabag pilot have a scene where she MASTURBATES TO AN OBAMA SPEECH.”
Fleabag, which won six Emmys in total, has been nominated for three Golden Globes. The ceremony takes place on 5 January.
