The Falcon and the Winter Soldier fans are convinced that Chris Evans could appear in the series, following an enigmatic interview with actor Wyatt Russell.

Russell plays John Walker in the Disney Plus original series, the character who assumes the mantle of Captain America, formerly belonging to Steve Rogers (Evans).

Evans ostensibly left the Marvel Cinematic Universe at the end of 2019’s Avengers: Endgame, having appeared (sometimes in uncredited cameos) in 11 films in the franchise.

In a recent interview with BBC Radio 1’s Screen Time, Russell gave a strange response when asked whether he had ever met Evans, before promising fans that they should “wait until the end of the series”.

“Have I ever met Chris Evans? I think I have,” he said. “I don’t think I’ve shook his hand, but I think I’ve walked by him somewhere and made eye contact.

“That counts as being a stalker, that doesn’t count as meeting anybody,” he joked.

The actor then added: “You’ve just got to wait until the end of the series, then everybody will be like ‘Oh, wow’ and love it, hate it. I don’t know.”

Evans isn’t the first star rumoured to make an appearance in a Disney Plus MCU spin-off. WandaVision was the subject of much speculation earlier this year when Paul Bettany declared that the finale would contain a shock MCU cameo, with many people suggesting that James Spader’s villain Ultron or Benedict Cumberbatch’s Doctor Strange could show their faces.

In the end, however, the cameo was Bettany himself, playing another version of his character, Vision.

While Russell’s comments are far from conclusive, many fans have taken them to suggest that Evans will be showing his face in The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, with interviewer Ali Plumb writing that he had been sent “a lot of messages about it”.

The Falcon and the Winter Soldier continues on Friday (16 April) on Disney Plus.
