The memory of Captain America looms large over The Falcon and The Winter Soldier.

Episode three of Marvel’s second Disney Plus TV show was released on Friday (2 April), and it saw Sam Wilson (Anthony Mackie) and Bucky Barnes (Sebastian Stan) team up with the villainous Zemo (Daniel Brühl) to investigate the rise of a super-soldier clan known as The Flag Smashers.

With the return of Zemo comes conversations about Steve Rogers, with the episode referencing the events of both Avengers: Age of Ultron (2015) and Captain America: Civil War (2017).

At one stage of the episode, Bucky is shown to be in possession of Steve’s notebook from Captain America: The Winter Soldier (2014), which sent fans into meltdown.

“BUCKYS NOTEBOOK IS STEVES NOTEBOOK??? MY HEART IS BREAKING,” one fan wrote.

Another added: “The notebook being the most important thing to Bucky because it’s plainly about Steve.”

Meanwhile, the episode lined up the forthcoming arrival of the X-Men into the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) thanks to the introduction of the location of Madripoor.
