From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. Your support makes all the difference.Empire co-creator Lee Daniels has responded to the hip hop drama's Emmys snub by dropping the F-bomb in an Instagram video.
The show's exec producer posted a message of himself with actor Jussie Smollett shouting "F**k these motherf**kers!" after the TV awards nominations were announced on Thursday.
Empire failed to earn a nod for Best Drama despite its impressive first run. Terrence Howard missed out on a Best Actor nomination for his role as Lucious Lyon but Taraji P Henson did make the cut for Best Actress after playing Cookie Lyon. Two of the show's costume designers were also nominated.
Daniels has since returned to Instagram to clarify that he was joking with his earlier video. "Some of these people ain't got nuttin' else better to do than to hit on me for having fun," he said.
"I was having fun. I love the Emmys and I'm excited about my cast and crew that got nominated and for the other people that got nominated for Emmys. So haters shut up and go to bed!"
Empire returns for its second series on 23 September while the Emmys ceremony takes place on 20 September.
