From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Speaking with former Fox News host Megyn Kelly, who was promoting her own upcoming show Today With Megyn Kelly, DeGeneres asked Kelly if she would ever have Trump as a guest.
Kelly, who was publicly attacked by Trump in 2015 and during his 2016 presidential campaign, said "definitely".
“I would not say ‘no’ to the sitting President of the United States,” she said.
Kelly then asked DeGeneres if she would reject Trump as a guest.
“Yeah,” the comedian and talk show host replied, receiving applause from the audience. “I would not have him on my show.”
"He is who he is and he has enough attention," she continued. "He has his Twitter account and he has ways to get his message across. There is nothing I’m going to say to him that’s going to change him, and I don’t want to give him a platform, because it validates him.
“For me to have someone on the show, I have to at least admire them in some way. And I can’t have someone that I feel is not only dangerous for the country — and for me personally as a gay woman — but to the world. He’s dividing all of us... I just don’t want him on the show.”
DeGeneres, who has had Republican politicians such as former President George W. Bush on her show, has been a vocal critic of Trump. In July 2017 when he tweeted his plans to ban transgender individuals from serving in the US military, she condemned him on Twitter.
"We should be grateful to the people who wish to serve, not turn our backs on them. Banning transgender people is hurtful, baseless and wrong," she wrote.
Trump's latest controversy has been to call for any NFL player protesting the national anthem to be fired.
Several of the league's top stars have refused to stand during “The Star-Spangled Banner” to protest the treatment of black people by police in the United States.
In response, the US President, who was campaigning in Alabama for Sen. Luther Strange, said anyone who "disrespected" the American flag deserved to lose their jobs.
