From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

The British actor shared his love for Neighbours after winning his first Oscar for The Theory of Everything earlier this month, singling out Alan Fletcher and Jackie Woodburne, who play Karl and Susan Kennedy, as “the greatest unsung acting duo in history”.
Redmayne, who apparently “learnt a lot” from the pair, could soon be set to glean yet more inspiration from them.
“If we could cap off an incredible year for Eddie by writing a guest role, however big or small, it would be our privilege,” Jason Herbison, Neighbours producer, told The Sun. “I would ensure he moves into the Kennedys' - they are renowned for hospitaility.”
Neighbours is preparing for its 30th anniversary special, which is expected to feature cameos from past stars Kylie Minogue, Jason Donovan and Margot Robbie.
Redmayne is busy working on his already awards-tipped portrayal of transgender painter Lili Elbe in The Danish Girl, with the first look picture of him in character released just last week.
Elsewhere, he has recorded the voice of a new train for a Thomas the Tank Engine DVD adventure and been widely-panned for his decidedly dodgy role as a camp villain in sci-fi movie Jupiter Ascending.
