What has Doctor Foster done? Fans are now racked with anxiety after episode 4's wild cliffhanger, closing with Gemma (Suranne Jones) accelerating toward Simon (Bertie Carvel) in her car at full speed. Did she actually run him over? Is he dead?
How did she let her passions overcome her? The episode had already seen Gemma finally enact her revenge plan against Simon with perfection: leaving him jobless, homeless, and utterly alone.
Simon's new wife Kate left him after Gemma unveiled the pair's one-night-stand, convincing her Simon's doomed to forever be a cheater. Simon returned home to a removal van and the revelation Kate's father and godfather will no longer support him financially, then that he'll never be able to see his daughter again.
A fall from grace Gemma witnessed in its entirety from her car. It should have been enough, but she was too tempted by one more offer for Simon to finally be a father to Tom, which he refused.
It looks as if Simon's promise that he won't leave Parminster except "in a coffin" may have now come to fruition, then; as he marched off with plans to grab Tom, Gemma put her foot to the accelerator. Whether Simon's alive or dead, there will certainly be consequences for Doctor Foster now.
Doctor Foster continues next Tuesday at 9pm on BBC One.
