From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Britain's Got Talent judge David Walliams and his wife Lara Stone have announced the birth of their first child.

Their baby son was born on Sunday. A spokeswoman for Dutch fashion model Stone, 29, said: "We can confirm they have had a baby boy."

The spokeswoman said they had no further details about the baby or the birth.

Walliams, who has not released a statement, acknowledged the birth by posting a picture of a floral bouquet on Twitter which he said was from BGT boss Simon Cowell.

The bunch featured white roses with what appeared to be sprigs of rosemary, lavender and mint.

Thanking Cowell, he wrote: "Someone always has to show off and send the biggest bouquet."

Fellow Britain's Got Talent star Amanda Holden said she was thrilled to hear about the birth and sent a message on Twitter saying: "Love love love to them all."

The couple have been married since 2010.

Walliams, 41, who found national fame on BBC comedy show Little Britain, announced the news of Lara's pregnancy on Twitter in November, writing: “Some wonderful news. My beautiful wife Lara is pregnant. We are having a baby! It is due next year and we both couldn't be happier.”

In a recent TV interview he said he would be unlikely to give the child an unusual name.

He told Alan Carr on his Channel 4 show Chatty Man: "It's a bit of a curse if you're called Apple or Peaches or something like that.

"I think we're just going to go with a normal name."

He added: "I'm really excited about it because I've been writing children's books and you get to that age when a lot of your friends have kids and you start thinking, 'When's it going to happen to me?"'
