The news anchor explained he was well enough to get through the show, but stated: “You do not want to get this."
“I tested positive. Scary, yes, as you might imagine. But better me than you,” the 49-year-old said.
Broadcasting from his basement, Cuomo admitted that he is worried he might have infected members of his family. He said that this thought hurt him “way more than anything the virus can do".
“So let’s focus, let’s use this example of me having it as proof that you can get it too, God forbid. We have to do everything we can to avoid being sick,” he continued.
“We have to do it for ourselves, our families, and for those on the front lines who are saving the lives of people like me and many of you. Together as ever as one. That is our remedy.”
“This is a fight, it’s going to get worse, and we’re going to suffer,” Cuomo said.
"And you have to accept that not with fear, but with almost a fanatical sense of passion to fight, because that’s the only way you’ve ever made it through anything hard in your life, and this will be no different.”
A number of celebrities have tested positive for the coronavirus including Idris Elba, Tom Hanks and his wife Rita Wilson and Bond girl Olga Kurylenko, although they are now believed to be out of quarantine.
