From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

The streaming service has announced that a Chilling Adventures of Sabrina holiday special, titled “A Mindwinter’s Tale,” will debut on the 14 December.
According to the log-line reported by Deadline, the episode will centre on the Church of Night’s celebration of the winter solstice, when families gather around a yule fire to sing pagan carols and tell ghost stories.
Series creator Roberto Aguirre Sacasa wrote: “Praise Satan! I mean, Praise Santa! Sabrina has a X-mas Special!”
Kiernan Shipka – who plays Sabrina – will return as the eponymous character, while Miranda Otto, Lucy Davis, Ross Lynch, Michelle Gomez, Chance Perdomo, Jaz Sinclair, Tati Gabrielle, Adeline Rudolph, Abigail Cowen and Lachlan Watson are all set to appear in the episode.
Other Netflix Christmas programmes include a special episode of the animated show Neo Yokio, the Kurt Russell-starring movie The Christmas Chronicles, and a sequel to last year’s A Christmas Prince.
