From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.
Your support makes all the difference.Charlie Brooker has attacked Dominic Cummings on Twitter, calling him an “an arrogant thicko”.
The Black Mirror creator said he is looking forward to watching the “inevitable” downfall of Boris Johnson’s chief special adviser.
He wrote: ““The sole upside of living through this humblingly s****y era is knowing you’ll *probably* get to witness arrogant thicko Dominic Cummings’ inevitable comeuppance five minutes before a blinding white flash in the sky.”
In another tweet, Brooker added: “‘Superforecasting’. Christ. What a f***ing clown.”
Brooker’s tweets arrive after the resignation of superforecaster and former Downing Street adviser Andrew Sabisky, who has been widely condemned for his comments on eugenics and race, after suggesting black people are mentally inferior.
The 27-year-old is understood to have been hired as part of Cummings’ drive to recruit “misfits and weirdos” to help shake up government.
Asked whether he regretted the appointment of Sabisky, Cummings told reporters: “Read Philip Tetlock's Superforecasting instead of political pundits who don't know what they are talking about.”
