From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Your support makes all the difference.

As 14 new contestants enter the Celebrity Big Brother house tonight, it’s time to get to know them a little better.

Who? Edele Lynch, pop star extraordinaire and younger sister of Boyzone’s Shayne

Where do I know that face from? Well, if you’re up on your Nineties tunes, you’ll know her as part of Irish girl group B*Witched. The band reunited in 2012 for TV show The Big Reunion.

Little known fact? Edele met her husband on a blind date and now they have three children together. Everybody say “aww”.

What can we expect in the house? Hopefully plenty of renditions of “C’est La Vie”, complete with dance routines.

Odds of winning? It’s not looking too likely at 20/1 going in. She’ll be needing those dance moves.

Hosted by Emma Willis, series seven of the hit reality show airs on Channel 5, with viewers promised “countless twists, turns and tough tasks”.

The house has been given a make-over for the new run, but celebrities will not be expecting VIP treatment but, instead, plenty of drama and tension.

Last year’s show was won by Geordie Shore’s Charlotte Crosby, who beat 5ive singer Abz Lowe to the title.
