Your support helps us to tell the story

From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Your support makes all the difference.

As 14 new contestants prepare to enter the Celebrity Big Brother house tonight, it’s time to get to know those expected a little better.

Who? George Gilbey, Gogglebox star.

Where do I know that face from? George is known for appearing on Channel 4’s Gogglebox, the programme that depicts people watching TV. The show won the Bafta for the best reality and constructed factual programme this year.

Why Celebrity Big Brother? There’s something all a bit meta about George starring in a TV show about people watching TV and then in one where he himself is being watched…

What can we expect in the house? The first time George appeared on Gogglebox he was introduced as not having had a girlfriend for a year. He is still single so he could be on the look-out for love among his fellow contestants.

Odds of winning? 11/4

Hosted by Emma Willis, series seven of the hit reality show airs on Channel 5, with viewers promised “countless twists, turns and tough tasks”.

The house has been given a make-over for the new run, but celebrities will not be expecting VIP treatment but, instead, plenty of drama and tension.

Last year’s show was won by Geordie Shore’s Charlotte Crosby, who beat 5ive singer Abz Lowe to the title.
